Fuel Oil Analysis by GC-MSD and FID

Heavy oil, marine fuel, bunker, furnace oil, or gasoil collectively called as Fuel oil is a fraction obtained from petroleum distillation. Long-chain hydrocarbons, particularly alkanes, cycloalkanes, and aromatics are the components of Fuel oil. Fuel oil is generally used to heat the homes and used as fuel for ships. The contaminants present in the fuel oil led to the malfunction of heaters and engine pumps.

The phenolic components present in the fuel oil create fouling in the oil pump and damage the engines. To avoid this, analysis of contaminants is essential.

GBA Solution Features

  • Fast analysis
  • Complete solution with full hardware and software
  • Quantitation of chemical species at low levels in marine fuel oils
  • A root cause relationship between the presence of such species or their concentration in fuels and any failure modes allegedly induced using these fuels can be established.
  • This method is necessary to establish test conditions required for future ISO 8217:2010 Petroleum products- Fuels (class F)-Specifications of marine fuel oils.
  • Additional compounds may be determined by using the same conditions and by selecting required mass spectral selected ions, accordingly.
