Sievers InnovOx TOC Analyzer Technology

What is the total organic carbon (TOC)?

It is the amount of carbon found in an organic compound and it is often used as an indicator of water quality or pollution.

How can we measure TOC?

By the oxidation of organic compounds to form Carbon Dioxide CO2 and water then will measure the concentration of CO2 produced to determine TOC concentration.

What are Oxidation Types?

  • Combustion (High Temperature or Catalytic)

  • Wet Oxidation

  • Wet oxidation plus Supercritical Water Oxidation (SCWO)

What is the supercritical water oxidation?

At it is critical point, water changes its behavior by increasing Temperature 375˚C and pressure to 220 bar (3200 psi): it is neither a liquid nor a gas but has properties of both.

  • Organics become highly soluble in supercritical water
  • Inorganic salts become insoluble

INNOVOX Models

INNOVOX Modes of Analysis

  • Non-purgeable Organic Carbon (NPOC) Mode:

Inorganic carbon in the sample is removed via sparging before oxidation. The remaining carbon that is oxidized and measured is called non-purgeable organic carbon.

  • · Total Organic Carbon (TOC) Mode

The analyzer makes two measurements: First the inorganic carbon and then the total carbon.
The TOC is calculated by subtraction:
TOC = TC-IC

INNOVOX TOC analyzer benefits

  • SCWO is a robust and effective oxidation method even for samples with complicated matrices or high levels of inorganic salts.
  • InnovOx analyzer can be run in either NPOC or TOC modes with a wide dynamic range up to 50,000 ppm of TOC.
  • Low cost of operation.
  • Stable method TOC Calibration for year.
  • No Catalyst or Carries gas are required for the analysis.
  • Low noise from the instrument background which improve S/N ratio and analyzer DLs.
  • Fastest analysis compares with any other TOC analyzer.
  • Coverage wide dynamic range of TOC concentration from 0.05 to 50,000 ppm.
  • Simple operation and easy maintenance.
  • Compatible with different application and samples matrix like Wastewater, Brine water, Sea water, Boiler Feed & Steam Condensate, Natural Water, Ground Water and Process Water.
