Biogas Analyzer

Biogas is considered a renewable and sustainable energy source and therefore is of great interest worldwide. Biogas is a gas mixture produced through biological processes; from anaerobic fermentation or digestion of organic material such as biomass, manure or sewage, municipal waste and energy crops.

Depending on the biogas composition two configurations are available; the Agilent 490 Micro GC Biogas Analyzer for pure biogas analysis and the Agilent 490 Micro GC Biogas Analyzer Extended when biogas is mixed with other hydrocarbon streams, such as natural gas or liquefied petroleum gas (LPG).

What is Biogas?

  • Gas generated by biological processes.
  • To use as fuel, the composition (Hydrogen, Oxygen, Nitrogen, Methane, CO, CO2, H2S) needs to be analyzed.
  • Hydrogen sulfide present in the biogas needs to be removed to reduce the environmental impact.
  • Can be stored as liquified Biogas.Calorific value can be increased by removing excess CO2 and by adding some hydrocarbons.

How to achieve the analysis?

  • Agilent’s Micro GC can be the best analytical tool to analyze all the composition in short run time.
  • Composition of permanent gases and hydrocarbon can be analyzed.
  • Total run time less than 2 minutes.
  • Complete solution.

Features of the Solution

  • Two channel configuration (only biogas) and three channel configurations (biogas blend with extended hydrocarbon C3-C9) available depends on the composition of interest.
  • Excellent repeatability.
  • Smaller footprint
  • Portable GC analyzer can be used in any remote location.
